Why Give? For more than 150 years, Memphis Theological Seminary has been training pastors and Christian workers for the churches of the Cumberland Presbyterian denomination as well as many other denominations throughout the Mid-South region. As the only accredited ecumenical seminary in the region, MTS has been privileged to participate, through the education of their pastors, in the life and ministry of literally hundreds of congregations. Many of these congregations would not have seminary trained leadership if it were not for Memphis Theological Seminary. We are honored to serve the Kingdom of God through this educational ministry. Like nearly all institutions of higher learning, the cost of operating Memphis Theological Seminary is only partially covered by the tuition payments from students. In this case, the tuition payments account for approximately half of the revenues necessary to provide a quality theological education. The other sources include endowment interest (13%), support from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church (12%) and annual gift income (25%). Without these other sources of support, the tuition charges would be too high for all but a few students to afford. If it were not for the generous support of donors many current students would not be able to obtain an education to follow their call into the ministry.
