Dear Friend of Memphis Theological Seminary,
I am honored to be a recipient of the 2013-2014 Starks Scholarship at Memphis
I grew up in Collierville, TN, and continued my secondary education at the University of
Memphis and Bethel College. While there, I met the love of my life. We were married in August
of 1994 and have two wonderful teenagers who attend Collierville High School. From a young
age, I found comfort in knowing that helping someone else was in the will of God. I have been
practicing this act for my entire life. Learning and gaining experience has helped me to fully see
and understand the importance of speaking hope into the lives of others.
I am in my second year at Memphis Theological Seminary, pursuing a Master of Divinity
degree. It is my goal and mission to validate the call of ministry that God has placed on my
life. My continued education has allowed me to serve in the Outreach Ministry at my church.
This opportunity provides me with the chance to share some of the great learning and teaching
principles that I have acquired while here at MTS. Some of these ideas and principles have
proven to be effective and informative in the lives of many. The teachers, the knowledge I gain,
and the camaraderie of my fellow students has kept me mentally focused and spiritually revived.
Also, I am member of the Memphis Police and Clergy Academy and I volunteer at the
Memphis Criminal Justice Center as a mentor to the inmates. My classes in Pastoral Care have
really helped with this program.
Again, I would like to extend my deepest and sincerest thanks to the scholarship
committee. Please accept this letter as an indicator of my heartfelt appreciation for your support.
I promise to work very hard and at some point in the future be able to give something back to
others, either as a volunteer, mentor, or possibly support a scholarship for future students like
